Tigers in the Sky - Baby Blue

Carpe Diem

Hello there my kawaii nakama. I watched "Dead Poets Society" the other day, starring the late Robin Williams as Mr John Keating. Besides him, Ethan Hawke from the mind boggling movie Predestination also acted in this classic but magnificent movie as one of Mr Keating's students. I have been somewhat inspired to write a poem after hearing what Mr Keating said to his students in the movie :

"We don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for."

Took me a few hours to complete one, but it was worth it I guess. It has been a long time since I did anything fun during this dull, mundane and humdrum holiday. The movie somewhat reminded me of my time back when I was in Victoria Institution, an all boys school, which is quite similar to Welton Academy. Since all of the students are boys, who most of em' have matured physically but actually not capable of thinking like a mature, well-behaved human being. Back then we did lots of pretty stupid things which would make people wonder whether we're actually elite students or foolish neanderthals who somehow ended up in the 21st century.

Just reminiscing about all the stupid yet funny things that we've done back then would make me grin from ear to ear like a child who stands before a candy store with ten grand in his hand. I have fond memories of the institution and hence the reason why I feel that I can relate to the movie so much. Although I'm actually quite morose about certain tragic events that happened in the movie which I'm grateful that didn't happen to any of me and my fellow Victorians back when we're still studying there.

Late night futsal, it's hard to hang out after SPM since almost everyone is separated from each other 😟

Anyway, enough talk, I'm not here to give you guys a synopsis of what the movie is about. I guess I would just fascinate ( or bore you to death ) with my first ever attempt at writing poem.
Well, here goes nothing :

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Every time I feel like I want to confess
To the lady in the white dress
Sunshine and rainbow would always manifest
Is this some kind of clue to a quest
Where I need to impress
And show her that I'm the best

Unless she only thinks of me as a pest
Which means I should just give it a rest
Instead of being obsessed
And creating a mess
Because I don't think I'll make any progress

Arggh, all of this is giving me a stress
My head feels like it is being compressed
What is this discomfort that I feel in my chest
Damn I'm so tired it is as if I'm being possessed

O' God I have a humble request
Please make it so that she will say yes
So I can finally end this great unrest

Now I can study for my next test
And ultimately achieve true success

Hahaha I finally made a poem, simple but it's a poem nonetheless

How's that for a first attempt, it's not that great but yeah whatever. In the movie, Mr Keating not only taught the students English but to live life to its fullest, hence the reason why I chose "Carpe Diem" as the title for this post. Once again I would like to quote what Mr Keating once said in the movie, "Carpe, carpe. Carpe diem. Seize the day, boys. Make your lives extraordinary." He would repeat this "Carpe Diem" thing a few times throughout the movie, which serves as a great reminder to all the students to make the most of their days. I would really really really really really recommend you guys to watch the movie, it's a masterpiece and if I'm not mistaken, Robin Williams was nominated for the Oscar Award for his role in the movie although it is quite a shame that he didn't win the award. "Patch Adams" is also another movie starred by Robin Williams which I would greatly recommend to all the folks out there. He is indeed a talented actor, and quite funny too, one of a kind indeed. 🤣

I would like to end the post with a quote from Walt Whitman's poem, as a tribute to the late Robin Williams :
"O Captain! My Captain! our fearful trip is done;
The ship has weather'd every rack, the prize we sought is won"

Till we meet again, goodbye 😘

Me and the squad hanging out before Daniel went to America. (Not a permanent move I hope)

Lost to a fellow Victorian, Abe Amiruddin in the SUKMUM final. Both of us trained under the same guy, Cikgu Zainul "Jeng" Haris at VI. He's the head prefect back when I was in form 1 at VI. I look a bit retarded in this picture though 😆
